Afghanistan Educatoinal Prosperity: Money in the Right Place?

Read the above article. Do you think the money was well spent? Think of the kids' futures, including the fact that they may be fighting the allies one day and whether it makes a union with the allies. By building places like these, do you think education will increase?

  1. Although some may argue that money spent on a skateboard park is frivolous or not well-used, I think that it is important for places such as these to be built for middle eastern youth. It gives them a distraction from war and pain inside their countries, and gives them something constructive to do. It also gives them hope for the future, and could definitely potentially increase a child's education.

  2. I agree with Abby in the sense that children during time of war do need to find comfort in some sort of activity. The money is going to a good cause as far as an agent of socialization and mixing various social classes. As far as creating hope for the future? no offense but not too many of these kids are going to grow up and get sponsored by big names like Red Bull or Monster. It's great for them to have a dream and get on track, but how are skateboarding lessons going to contribute to substantial living environments for years to come?

  3. I think this was money well spent. Like Abby said, kids need something to do. Maybe distractions of this sort will prevent them from turning to violence when they grow up.

Like Charlie pointed out however, money needs to be put towards education and standard of living as well. Maybe America should step up and do it. Try to provide for children that may one day be our allies.

  4. I agree with Charlie in the sense that this is an important factor when looking at the socialization of the children. One of the major socialization factors in a child's life is schooling, and without it these children would lose out on a lot that could greatly benefit them in the future. However, with all that considered, i feel as though the money should partly be put into more productive programs. For example, i feel as though the children could get by just fine without the skateboarding lessons

  5. I agree with what Briana and Charlie said mostly. Socialization and a distraction is obviously going to positively benefit the youth, as well as maybe distract them from potential violent tendencies. However, money should definitely be flowing towards more constructive areas.

  6. When the constant threat of getting blown the fuck up every time a child goes to school is gone then the money will be well spent.

  7. Skateizan?? Sounds like a great way to modernize the afghani children. Introduce them to a sport that is popular in todays society and maybe they can pick up some values too and spread them..

  8. I think the way the money is being spent isn't the smartest idea right now being that they need it for schools. But it is always nice for kids to have a place to hang out, but then again I'm picturing these places to be nice and safe like they are here and I'm guessing thats not the case in Afghanistan...so basically the money needs to go to school, and ones that are promoting terrorism
